The large fresh water lake which feeds the fresh water marsh, which is part of the wildlife preserve and bird sanctuary within the park.
See the egret sitting on the rice trunk?
We hiked out to the ocean front behind Atalaya.
We had the beach to ourselves as far as the eye could see.
Isn't that just beautiful?
Now, to get out onto the beach there is a long wooden walkway...which was being repaired during the 'off season' so it was closed. There was yellow caution tape and a bulldozer and an excavator and orange cones...and we totally ignored all of it and used the boardwalk anyway.
Yep, we're rebels.
My uncle finally dragged me away from wave watching to go take a look at the fresh water lake instead, so we hiked down another long elevated boardwalk through reed beds and marsh grass.
Picturesque egret is picturesque.
Check it out, kids. It's a rice trunk being used to regulate the flooding of the fresh water marsh which is part of the bird sanctuary.
Those are coots, which are tiny little ducks.
Picturesque egret goes to find some dinner.
