A couple quick things about this video...

1. It's from the British 'Comic Relief' special from 2007. In England 'Comic Relief' raises money for children's charities...which is actually pretty awesome.

2. This clip features comedienne Catherine Tate...who would later have a role on Doctor Who opposite David Tennant, who plays Doctor Who...and plays the teacher in this clip (for those of you who didn't bother to learn who he is the first time I mentioned him).

3. I'm a fan of Doctor Who.

4. This made me laugh till I cried. It's brilliant!

So...last night I hung out with my friend the H.O.P.S.F. We went to dinner and then went to the book store...cause that's what nerds do for fun. ANYWAY...I picked a handful (okay...a double handful) of new reading material.

Having heard an very entertaining author interview on 'Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me' (on NPR...look, I've already said I'm a nerd) several months ago I decided to pick up the newest book by Carrie Fisher.

Well, having now finished reading the book I have to say that I really enjoyed it. I learned things I had never known (did you know she was married to singer/songwriter Paul Simon, and that they are the same height? Neither did I), garnered some good advice (seriously, don't wash pills down with booze), and laughed out loud more times then I could count. I also cringed, shuddered, grimaced, and winced. Turns out that behind the smile there is an open, honest, funny, and damaged person...who impresses the hell out of me.

A Lovely Afternoon

While reveling in my brief bout of unemployment, I decided to make a trip to one of the branches of the local library...and yes, it just so happened to be the branch where LibraryDiva works but that is beside the point.

Having a few long, slow, peaceful minutes to kill, LibraryDiva suggested that I grab a seat out on the screen porch and enjoy the silence since, to quote LD - “nobody ever goes out there" – end quote. So I took her advice an wandered through the 'quiet reading' room to the porch.

And I found a decidedly comfy seat...(no, not that one...or that one...or that one...IT'S THE ONE THAT LOOKS COMFY!!!) and settled down for a few minutes of reading....

But mostly...I just enjoyed the view.

Any Excuse for a New Project

So, I have this friend, whom I affectionately refer to as the H.O.P.S.F., who happens to be newly engaged (and by newly I mean it's been less than a week). And since she has given me so much advance notice of her impending nuptials, I have plenty of time to arrange a really nice wedding present.

And by 'arrange a really nice present' I mean 'make her a really nice present.'

Several years ago, while wondering through a craft store with the H.O.P.S.F. in tow, I happened upon a Gold Collection (read that as 'expensive and complicated') Noah's Ark (the H.O.P.S.F. collects them). But it is the kind of thing that would make a fantastic wedding present.

And it happens to be perfect for the H.O.P.S.F. (read that as: Sorry Dave, you're stuck). But, I never quite got around to purchasing it. Fortunately, the H.O.P.S.F.'s mom beat me to the punch on this one and purchased it a while ago and gave the kit to the H.O.P.S.F. ...but since it is on the 'seriously complicated' side of things and the H.O.P.S.F. is still on the 'beginner' side of things...I swiped it.

And I've started working on it...but I'm not going to post any updates because I have to keep the H.O.P.S.F. in suspense.
