“I’ll take ‘Folk Music of the 1970s’ for 200, Alex.”

The Eagle and the Hawk by John Denver

“I am the eagle, I live in high country
in rocky cathedrals that reach to the sky
I am the hawk, and there’s blood on my feathers
but time is still turning, they soon will dry
And all those who see me, and all who believe in me
share in the freedom I feel when I fly…

Come dance with the west wind, and touch on the mountain tops
sail o’er the canyons and up to the stars
and reach for heavens, and hope for the future
and all that we ‘can’ be, not what we are…”

I grew up listening to the dulcet tones of singer/songwriter John Denver. At least one of his albums (on tape…damn I’m old!) would go with us every year on ‘vacation’…because it was a family tradition to listen to ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ at least twice while driving through West Virginia.

Read that last paragraph again…my parents have seriously twisted me…I can’t wait to do the same to my children.

ANYWAY! I rebelled against him, his music, and all that he stood for (poor guy, he never even knew he was the cause of teenaged angst and several family arguments) once I hit high school…bringing a family tradition to a screeching halt. I even went so far as to throw one of my dad’s multiple tapes out the car window one year while traveling north on US 19. Sorry about that, Dad.

But it seems that age has mellowed me…and it seems that the all that brainwashing my folk music loving mother subjected me to as a child has caught up with me and my damaged psyche at last. In other words…I’m a John Denver fan.

And ‘The Eagle and the Hawk’ is my favorite of his songs.

And when I’m bummed I put it on repeat and turn the volume up.

And sing along...loudly.

I guess what I’m getting at is if you haven’t ever heard this song then do yourself a favor and YouTube it or iTune it or steal it from someone who already has it.

Then turn it on, close your eyes, and just listen.

A Weekend in Diva-stan

LibraryDiva and BalletDiva made one of their semi-annual trips to Las Vegas on Friday morning. Which means that while they were watching Cirque du Soleil, and Criss Angel (BalletDiva’s favorite) and Thunder From Down Under and the Pirate Show and the Fountain Show and going to see the Bodies Exhibit and eating lots of fabulous food…I was left all alone with the fuzzy punks who live in the apartment.

So here’s a look at my weekend…starting Interloping Midget and Thing Two!

Friday night…

Saturday…

Saturday night…

The H.O.P.S.F. and I hung out for a few hours…and she was nice enough to share the remains of her Banana Crème Pie Blizzard with Thing Two…

And Thing Two happens to love banana ice cream…

Sunday morning…VERY EARLY…

The End … don’t you wish your life was as exciting as mine???

Get Out While You Still Can!!!

I have no issues with female political pundits…I just have issues with the idea of this woman being a heart beat away from the presidency.

Any Direction…As Long as Its Forward.

The attitude on this blog has gotten entirely too serious for its own good.

And while this is totally understandable given the present circumstances it is still totally unacceptable! After all, I strive to be the bright spot in your day!

So what can I tell you that might cheer us both up?

I noticed a sign in one of the ground floor apartment windows this morning. It was a McCain/Palin campaign sign. This means I now know two disturbing facts about these new neighbors…not only are they Florida Gators fans, they are also morons.

Wow! Oops! Didn’t mean to express that much personal opinion there. Sorry about that!

Full Stop

On Monday morning I was called into the conference room by the CFO. The head of personnel was already there. I was informed that my job was being eliminated because of budgetary cutbacks. Over the course of this year 160 production line employees have already been laid off. There are another 70 who will be losing their jobs later this month. There are also several salaried employees who will be leaving.

So it’s because of the economy.

But on the plus side…I was able to find gas!

Yeah…doesn’t really make it better.

Now for the answers to some of the questions I’ve been asked regarding this issue:

I’m fine. No really, I’m fine. I don’t know why but I have a feeling that something good will come of this and that everything will work out for the best. So yeah…I’m fine.

Yes, I’ve taken an updated resume into the temp agency and I’ve had a conversation with my rep. She has been very encouraging. She is hopeful. She is convinced she’ll find me another job soon. So yeah…that’s good.

No, I don’t know where I’ll go or what I’ll be doing when I get there, but I think that the agency will be looking for similar positions…especially now that I have experience, a great letter of recommendation and the promise of several fantastic references.

I have told my mother. Neither of us has told my father. No one else in my family knows yet. I don’t know if I’ll be sharing this information with them or not. I might mention it after I have started a new job.

And thank you. Thank you for the phone calls. Thank you for the emails. Thank you for the prayers and hugs and Mexican food. Thank you for the encouraging words and conversations in the dark. Thank you for making me smile and laugh and feel better.
