I just want to set the world my car on fire

Some days are generally so unfun, that you are glad when your day is interrupted with "There's a car on fire in the back parking lot. Should we evacuate?"

Naturally, instead of doing the sensible thing, we all immediately proceeded to crowd around the back windows to ooh and ahh over our newly found potentially explosive bonfire. I, being a child of today's generation, took my cameraphone and started snapping pictures.

(No, this is not my car.)

So, apparently the story is that the unfortunate young gentleman was driving through town when his car began to overheat. So he pulled over in the first place he could find - an empty spot in our parking lot.

Coworker: "Why didn't he just park along the street?"
Me: "I don't know about you, but if my car is overheating, the last thing I want to worry about is parallel parking it."

One of our coworkers was on her way back from lunch and pointed out to the unfortunate young gentleman that his car was starting to smoke. He lifted up the hood to keep the smoke from building out, and BAM! Flames. Said coworker proceeded to call the fire department, who, being a block and a half away, arrived promptly. One of our male coworkers graciously offered to move the cars of the coworkers parked around the auto inferno, which is why some of these shots have cars and some don't.

It took some effort, but the strapping young lads of Gainesville Fire Station #4 got the fire out with no explosions.

This is not HistoryDiva's mom's car, either.

With the engine thoroughly flooded with fire extinguisher foam and water (which is apparently bad for cars as the two coworkers parked next to him had to go take their cars to the car wash up the road) the unfortunate young gentleman was comforted by the initial coworker before calling for a tow truck...and a ride.

It sucks to be him.

I immediately wondered what would make the car catch on fire... I am a dork.
